Need friend help? Please?

My best guy friend and I never get to hang out much or talk in person because he goes to a different school but we text a lot. It is kind of awkward to talk to him in person. We hung out last weekend and he said "ooooo take a picture of me and Shannon" so I took a picture with him and he put his arm around me. He was fine with it but it felt soooo awkward to me. Why?
