Customizing my converse shoes..but how?

I really love The Strokes, you have no idea.. and I was thinking of maybe painting one of the band members face on the side of one of the shoes, on the canvas part and doing their logo on the tongue of the shoe. I am a decent drawer and all but I wouldn't really trust myself to free hand paint a person's face on my shoe.. so I'm wondering if I would somehow be able to stencil on something (by the way I have black converse..) but, maybe stencil something so I can paint on without worrying about messing up?
